Body Image > Teens
Teenagers have a difficult world to navigate - they have pressure
to excel in school and extra-curricular activities, they are discovering
who they are, and they are figuring out where they fit into their families
and in with their peers.
When children are having trouble, they will either "act in" or "act out."
"Acting in" includes withdrawing, depression, self-mutilation, overeating,
undereating, purging food, sleeping too much or too little, video game and internet overuse, and drug or
alcohol abuse.
"Acting out" includes anger, getting into fights, promiscuity, vandalism,
truancy, failing grades, etc.
Eating, weight and body image issues fall under the "acting in" category.
